Here for Haiti Committees & Initial Charges

 

Education Committee

Charge: to inform the campus community about the history (including relationship with the United States), culture, and current needs of Haiti and the Haitian people (

activities could include forums, films, speakers and exhibits); to encourage and support class based community engaged learning projects to support the relief effort and/or Here for Haiti activities.

Service Learning Trips

Charge: to research and inform the campus community about the possibility of community-engaged learning trips to Haiti; if trips are possible, to help plan and support TCNJ trips to advance the relief efforts.

Fundraising

Charge: to establish reasonable annual fundraising goals; to provide input to members of the campus community who are looking to support reputable charitable organizations; to direct the electronic pledge card campaign and inform the TCNJ community about the results; to be a resource for all groups planning fundraising events about needs (e.g. cash v materials) and effective strategies.

Student Support

Charge: to identify students who have been personally affected by the earthquake in Haiti; to be proactive and inform these students about the resources that are available to them; and to remove any obstacles that might hinder their ability to access this care.

Student Planning

Charge: to provide support and advice to individual students or student organizations interested in sponsoring or assisting with programs related to Haitian Earthquake Relief (including educational, cultural, and fundraising events); to help organize and staff meetings with student leaders to help facilitate the development of coordinated and effective plan to support the relief efforts; to ensure all planned events are provided to the outreach/communication committee (which will inform the TCNJ community via the wiki and other outlets).

Communication and Outreach

Charge: to keep the campus and community informed about Here for Haiti and related activities; to ensure the Coordination Committee receives relevant information from state and national relief organizations about opportunities or policies; and to reach out to the local Haitian community to ascertain what needs or interests the Here for Haiti committee could consider incorporating into its annual plans.
